Very tasty fish - known locally as mahi-mahi. usually found
offshore in season by trolling around weed lines and flotsam. Bulls often run
50+ lbs and the smaller "schoolies" 5+ lbs and up.
One
of the fastest-growing fish, thought to live no more
than 5 years; swimming speed is estimated at 50 knots;
spawns in warm ocean currents throughout much of the
year; young found in sargassum weed; feeds on flying
fish and squid. Excellent eating. High speed trolling
w/ artificials, looking for boards or flotsam, weed
lines, etc is one approved method. If you find some
flotsam, take a few passes around for the occasional
wahoo or Marlin lurking about, then change to light
tackle and have fun with the "schoolies", 8-15lb
dolphin.
